— News — Construction of the Vendenheim tank

The EMS Sanitation Master Plan particularly includes the construction of several dozen wastewater retention tanks, as well as the creation and strengthening of the sanitation network and stormwater ogee linked to construction of those tanks. The objective is to reduce flows of pollution into the environment to a level ensuring the healthy ecological condition of natural bodies of water.

This is the context in which the consortium comprising Eiffage GC (lead company), Soletanche Bachy France, Lingenheld, Speyser, Techfina and Arcade Studio was awarded the contract for construction of the Vendenheim tank. It is one of the most important structures in the EMS’s series of tanks (7,400m³) and it was designed by Artelia.

This involves creating a pollution tank linked to the pumping station and partially restructuring the existing networks. The combination of these two measures should protect the natural environment against discharges from stormwater ogee along the Muehlbaechel river near Vendenheim.

The project includes complete construction of the tank, including installation and commissioning of the equipment (tipping buckets, pumps and deodorisation system). For Soletanche Bachy, the project involves building:

• a circular diaphragm wall using a KS grab,
• an injected base in the very open ground of the Rhine alluvia,
• slab-anchoring micropiles, constructed from the natural ground level.

The teams are already working on the studies phase, with work due to start in early 2022.

This project will be an opportunity for Soletanche Bachy France to gain a foothold in the Strasbourg region, where the last diaphragm wall project dates back to 2015!
