Indeed, it was in 1950, as part of the Paul-Emile Victor Polar Mission, that Soletanche Bachy carried out the first deep core drilling of the ice at the North Pole. Coordinated by the French Polar Expeditions, this structure organized scientific research expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic in France.
